New MNW principal to start July 1

Hurley to fill position vacated by Kevin Wood

MANSON — Jayme Hurley will start as Manson Northwest Webster’s junior/senior high principal on July 1, replacing outgoing Principal Kevin Wood.

Hurley previously served as a 7-12 grade physical education instructor in the Independence Community School District. Throughout his career in education, he has also taught special education, at-risk education, alternative education and driver’s education.

Hurley has coached multiple sports and served as head strength and conditioning coach for Independence Junior/Senior High School.

The MNW Board of Education extended the offer May 6 after interviewing four candidates.

Superintendent Jeff Daggett said a few qualities made their choice stand out.

“What stood out about Jayme was his ability to connect with people,” Daggett said. “He is very approachable and a great listener and communicator.”

Outgoing principal Wood has accepted a superintendent position with Sioux Central School District.

“I am looking forward to teaming up with all stakeholders within the Manson Northwest Webster Community School District as we move forward with offering the best education possible for our students,” Hurley said.

Daggett expressed confidence in Hurley’s fit for the district, based on feedback from the community and district stakeholders during the hiring process.

Hurley’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, and a master’s degree in physical education and education administration from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.

Hurley and his wife, Rachel, have six children between ages 7 and 22: Katelyn, Meg, Julia, Elliot, Sophia and Lillian.
