Woman’s hand freed after getting it stuck in toilet

HUMBOLDT — A Humboldt woman set to get married later this year probably didn’t imagine she would spend over an hour of her Monday night with her hand stuck in a toilet.

But that’s what she experienced after her engagement ring fell into the bowl. The woman then tried to fish it out and in the process, found that she was unable to get her hand back out of the hole, according to Humboldt Fire Chief Jim Gronbach.

Humboldt firefighters were dispatched to 515 Fifth St. at about 8:30 p.m.

“When we got there, she had been there for about a half hour,” Gronbach said. “We turned the water off, unhooked the stool and swung it into the tub.”

Next, Gronbach said firefighters broke the stool up and freed her hand.

Humboldt County Memorial Hospital EMS was also on scene.

“She had a lot of discomfort in her arm,” Gronbach said. “Her arm was in quite a bit of pain.”

The woman was transported to the hospital to get checked out, Gronbach reported.

As for the jewelry, the ring was apparently not recovered, Gronbach said.

Firefighters were on scene for about 45 minutes.
