The Fort Dodge Community School District will be updating its computer-aided drafting program this fall, after the school board approved a request to purchase $22,512 in new computer equipment on Tuesday evening.

The new CAD equipment includes 14 computers and 22-inch monitors. These computers will allow the district to run its CAD programming more effectively, said Director of Secondary Education Kirsten Doebel. The equipment was purchased from Sterling Computers, of Omaha, Nebraska.

These computers will be paid for with funds from the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act.

Doebel also requested $10,950 to access Precision Exams for the career and technical education program.

“This allows us access to assessments that are aligned to industry standards for all CTE course areas,” Doebel said. “This is also a nationally recognized certification program when skills have been mastered by students and those certifications are recognized by many companies in the industry.”

The school board approved this request, which will also be funded with Perkins dollars.

The school board also approved a $2,116.40 change order to the Dodger Stadium turf replacement project. The change order covers changes to the comm box.

In other business, the board reviewed the timeline on a possible public referendum revising the district’s SAVE Fund revenue purpose statement and extending its voted physical plant and equipment levy.

The school board will continue to discuss the public referendum, voting on a resolution during its June meeting.
