FD City Council approves money for Main Street, Growth Alliance

Plumb Supply Co. also to receive financial support

The Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance, Main Street Fort Dodge and Plumb Supply Co. will each receive financial support from the local government as a result of City Council action Monday.

The council approved agreements with all three entities in which they will receive money generated by tax increment financing. Tax increment financing occurs when increased property tax revenue from a designated area is set aside to be reinvested in that area.

Under the agreement approved Monday, the Growth Alliance will receive up to $486,000 over the next three years.

Main Street Fort Dodge will receive $30,000 a year for the next three years.

Plumb Supply Co. will receive up to $100,000 over three years to reimburse it for some expenses related to renovation of a building it recently acquired at 625 S. 22nd St. Specifically, the money will be used to pay for relocating electrical lines and doing other work in the city-owned right-of-way.

There was no discussion about the agreements.

The deal with Main Street Fort Dodge was approved unanimously. Councilwoman Lydia Schuur abstained from the otherwise unanimous vote on the agreement with the Growth Alliance. Councilman Jeff Halter voted against the agreement with Plumb Supply Co.

In an unrelated matter, the council hired Impact 7G, of Coralville, to prepare plans for a restoration project along Soldier Creek near the Fort Dodge Nature Trail and Webster County Road D14.

The company will be paid $478,300. The city has $1.4 million from the state to pay for the project.

The work will consist of restoring the stream and nearby wetlands, creating biofiltration cells and improving trail access.

Also on Monday, the council hired Calhoun-Burns and Associates, of West Des Moines, to inspect 17 bridges. The company will be paid $10,400.
