Peterson guilty of committing sex acts on child

A Fort Dodge man is guilty of committing sexual acts against a child, according to the Webster County Attorney’s Office.

On Friday, a Webster County jury found Joseph D. Peterson guilty of eight counts of second-degree sexual abuse for sex acts committed against a child under the age of 12.

Second-degree sexual abuse is a class B felony.

Peterson was arrested March 29, 2019, and was charged with two counts of second-degree sex abuse.

During trial, the State of Iowa amended the charges by adding six counts.

The complaints filed against Peterson allege that he committed multiple sexual acts on a child, only identified as being less than 12 years old, on at least two occasions between Jan. 1 and March 29.

Peterson faces 25-year sentence with a mandatory minimum of 17.5 years on each count.

The State of Iowa was represented by First Assistant Webster County Attorney, Ryan Baldridge.

Sentencing is scheduled for January 21, 2020, on the third floor of the Webster County Courthouse.
