ROLFE — The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Department has issued an arrest warrant for a Rolfe man facing a charge of attempted murder stemming from an alleged stabbing Sunday evening.

Michael John Gord, 28, of Rolfe, has been identified as a suspect by the Sheriff’s Department, which says he stabbed another Rolfe man, age 36, in the 100 block of Garfield Street.

Sgt. Steve Henderson said the victim knew his alleged assailant and called the incident in himself.

“That person was armed with a large knife visible to (the victim),” Henderson said.

The motive precipitating the confrontation, where a struggle ensued, has not been disclosed.

A warrant for Gord’s arrest, issued shortly after the incident, remains active. Though he is at large, the Sheriff’s Department said they believe he does not pose a risk to the public.

Gord faces charges of attempted murder, a Class A felony; willful injury causing serious injury, a Class C felony; and going armed with intent, a Class D felony.

The victim was released in stable condition following treatment at Pocahontas Community Hospital for serious stab wounds to his lower body. He was transported by Rolfe Ambulance.
