FD woman sentenced for meth distribution

A Fort Dodge woman was sentenced in federal court Tuesday to five years in prison for a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy, according to prosecutors.

Chelsea Collins, 31, was convicted of one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and one count of distributing methamphetamine stemming from her admitted involvement in a conspiracy in the Fort Dodge area from January 2018 to September 2018, the United States Attorney’s Office reported.

Collins said she distributed and helped others distribute more than 35 grams of pure meth to individuals cooperating with law enforcement, prosecutors reported. At sentencing, evidence showed that she threatened those cooperating with investigators and law enforcement officers involved in the investigation of her and her co-conspirators.

Her 60-month sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand after successful prosecution by Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn S. Wehde. The investigation was handled by the Fort Dodge Police Department, Webster County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

Collins’ five-year prison sentence will be served consecutively to two other state prison sentences she is currently serving. Following her prison term, Collins must also serve a four-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal prison system.
