The Webster County Board of Supervisors encourages the public to attend a public information open house from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday during Market on Central. The open house will have information on proposed improvements for the Webster County Courthouse clock tower.

Webster County Supervisors on Tuesday approved a new list of no snow removal roads, approved a salary increase, suspended property taxes on a single parcel, approved an installation permit and encouraged the public to attend another clock tower restoration information meeting this week.

No snow removal list

Some new no snow removal roads in the county were approved on an updated list provided by County Engineer Jamie Johll. The list of 88 locations totals approximately 75 miles of road.

“This saves us a lot of money every year,” said Johll, estimating cost savings at about $1,500 per snowfall.

Clock tower information

The public is encouraged to attend this Thursday’s public information open house meeting on the courthouse clock tower restoration and improvement project. The scope of improvements include the clock tower restoration and improvement, roof slate shingle replacement, skylight replacement and roof membrane replacement.

The meeting is scheduled to coincide with Market on Central to encourage further attendance on the large project to rejuvenate the Fort Dodge landmark. The last meeting yielded two attendees, according to supervisors. Market on Central will be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday on Central Avenue.

Salary increase

Supervisors accepted a 2.5% salary increase request for Dylan Hagen, Webster County emergency management coordinator, increasing his pay from $50,000 to $51,250, per a July recommendation from the county’s Emergency Management Commission. The salary increase, effective July 1, was overlooked in the last coordination of the budget for the new fiscal year.

Property tax suspension

Property taxes from 2017 were suspended for Abraham New at South 22nd Street, per hardship recommendations of the Iowa Department of Human Services. Taxes will still accrue; the suspension is not forgiveness or a waiver of the taxes.

Fiber optic installation

Supervisors approved a permit from Lehigh Valley Cooperative Telephone Association to install a fiber optic cable on 370th Street in Dayton Township
