Police continue shooting investigation

Wounded teen released from hospital

The 16-year-old boy who suffered gunshot wounds to his leg in a Saturday afternoon shooting has since been treated and released from the hospital, according to officials.

Meanwhile investigators with the Fort Dodge Police Department continue to follow up on the shooting where 20 shots were fired on the city’s south side, according to police Capt. Ryan Gruenberg.

The boy was injured when shots were fired Saturday at about 1:30 p.m. in the 1800 and 1900 blocks of Fourth Avenue South.

Responding police officers and Webster County sheriff’s deputies learned that a vehicle may have been involved and fled the area.

The boy, whom police are not identifying due to his age, was taken to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center in a private vehicle.

Police don’t believe the shooting was a random act.

“We have reason to believe those involved knew one another,” Gruenberg said Saturday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Fort Dodge Police Department at 573-1424. They can also anonymously report information to Webster County Crime Stoppers by calling 573-1444, visiting www.wccrimestoppers.com or texting “LEC” and the tip to 274637.
