Bancroft deaths ruled murder-suicide

Victims identified in July 12 shootings

BANCROFT — The ex-boyfriend of a Bancroft woman shot and killed her and another man at a Bancroft home before turning the gun on himself in an apparent murder-suicide, according to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

All three bodies were found July 12 at a home located at 524 S. Morehouse St.

Officers with the Bancroft Police Department were called to the scene at 8:13 a.m. that morning in northern Kossuth County.

Officials have identified the victims as Mason Alrik Cederwall, 22, of Algona, and Amy Lynn Manna, 30.

The state medical examiner’s office determined the cause of death for both Cederwall and Manna to be homicide.

The manner of death was gunshot wounds, the DCI reported.

Cederwall and Manna were apparently shot by Austin James Bernhard, 30, of Bancroft.

Bernhard’s cause of death was determined to be suicide.

The manner of Bernhard’s death was a single gunshot wound, the DCI reported.

Investigators determined that Bernhard was an ex-boyfriend of Manna’s.

Bernhard had previously been arrested on July 4 for assault and burglary charges in an incident involving Manna and Cederwall.
