A power pole along Quail Avenue is splintered after a Ford pickup truck slammed into it Monday afternoon. Eric Gambill, 25, of Fort Dodge, was reportedly driving the truck northbound on Quail Avenue near Calcium Products when a tractor-trailer traveling southbound got too close to the center line, according to Webster County Sheriff’s Deputy Justin Wood. According to Wood, Gambill said that caused him to move over closer to the shoulder. At that point, the truck hydroplaned and entered the east ditch, Wood said. The truck continued into the ditch before striking the pole. Heavy rains impacted the roadway. A passenger, Annelease Fruth, 26, of Boone, was transported by ambulance with minor injuries to UnityPoint Health — Trinity Regional Medical Center. Wood said Mid-American Energy Co. was contacted to install a new pole. The Fort Dodge Police Department and Fort Dodge Fire Department also responded.
