Ehn takes the stage
Performs at ISU’s Music Hall
AMES — Hallie Ehn was given the chance to share her musical gift with some of the state’s top performers at Iowa State University’s Music Hall.
Ehn, a who recently completed her sophomore year at St. Edmond, was chosen for the Outstanding Performers Showcase in May.
“Being selected to represent my school was such an honor,” Ehn said. “I will forever be grateful for being given this opportunity.”
Following a performance in Britt in April, Ehn received a Division I rating and was hand-picked by the judge as the outstanding performer of the solo/ensemble contest. Those who were invited to attend came from selections at the Iowa High School Music Association Solo/Small Ensemble Festival.
Just as she did at the first contest, Ehn sang two songs: “Der Musensohn” by Schubert and “I Have Twelve Oxen” by John Ireland.
“I would have to give the credit for song selections to Mr. (Ben) Wegner,” Ehn said. “He chose songs that are fun and that challenged me. I had a great time performing them both.
“I’d like to thank both Mr. Wegner and Bruce Perry. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.”
Ehn is a regular on the stage at St. Edmond with musicals and choir concerts, along with performing the National Anthem before sporting events. However, the recent chance to sing on a college campus changed her feelings about continuing on after high school.
“Performing at Iowa State was very eye-opening,” she said. “It helped me realize that maybe singing in college isn’t such a bad idea. The campus is gorgeous and their music hall is amazing.”
Ehn, who has earned all-state recognition, played the role of Dorothy Gale in the St. Edmond musical “The Wizard of Oz” in March and was recently cast as Ariel in “Little Mermaid Jr.” through Stage Door Productions.
