Five awarded Messenger scholarships to Iowa Central

Five area high school seniors have been awarded scholarships from The Messenger to attend Iowa Central Community College this fall. The scholarships are full-tuition and one-year, with Iowa Central providing half-tuition scholarships to The Messenger scholarship winners during their second year at the college.

Recipients of The Messenger scholarships are:

• Joley Bird, of Fort Dodge, is a senior at Fort Dodge Senior High School. She is the daughter of Todd and Jeri Bird. She plans to study pre-law. Bird’s involvement includes cheerleading, Teens Against Human Trafficking, Link Crew, Little Dodger newspaper, Women’s Choral, Vox Femina and A Capella Choir.

• Erin Flattery, of Fort Dodge, is a senior at St. Edmond Catholic School. She is the daughter of Daniel and Roxanne Flattery. She is undecided on a major. Flattery is the current student body vice president and has also participated in Concert Choir, Gael Force Show Choir, National Honor Society, softball, volleyball, cross country, basketball and track.

• Madyson Jaeschke, of Moorland, is a senior at Southeast Valley High School. She is the daughter of Heith and Amy Jaeschke. She is undecided on a major. Jaeschke is involved in activities that include 4-H, DECA, and has been a team captain for both volleyball and basketball.

• Natalie Nordstrom, of Fort Dodge, is a senior at St. Edmond Catholic School. She is the daughter of Joe and Susan Nordstrom. She plans to study elementary education. She is involved in student council, National Honor Society, is a President’s Latino Advisory Committee student ambassador, performs in concert choir, Gael Force Show Choir and took part in the Italy pilgrimage.

• MacKenzie Sharpe, of Fort Dodge, is a senior at Fort Dodge Senior High School. She is the daughter of Mark and Laurie Sharpe and Matt and Rebecca Newberry. She plans to study psychology. Her involvement includes the fall play, choir, concert band, pep band, marching band, and serving as a co-captain on the bowling team.
