Street paving contract awarded by FD council

A long stretch of busy North 22nd Street will be repaved under a contract awarded by the Fort Dodge City Council on Monday.

The council hired Fort Dodge Asphalt Co. to do this year’s asphalt paving project at a cost of $1,098,198.40.

The biggest single component of the project is repaving 22nd Street between Second Avenue North and 10th Avenue North.

Also, North 14th Street will be repaved between Central Avenue and Sixth Avenue North.

Fifth Avenue North near North 14th Street will also be repaved.

Councilman Kim Alstott said the company will be putting down four and a half inches of asphalt instead of the typical three inches. He said the road surface should last a lot longer as a result.

In another street-related matter, the council hired Iowa Plains Signing Inc., of Slater, to repaint lane stripes at a cost of $57,600.

Councilman Dave Flattery was absent from the otherwise unanimous votes to award the contracts.

Fort Dodge Asphalt Co. and Iowa Plains Signing Inc. were the only companies that offered bids for those projects.
