FD attorney strives daily for justice, fairness

Q & A with Jerry Schnurr

Editor’s note: The Messenger interviewed several influential men in and around the Fort Dodge community about their priorities in work and life. Today, the series continues with Jerry Schnurr, attorney.

What is important to you?

Faith, family and friends are most important. The relationships with others give my life meaning and joy. Justice and integrity are also important. I think these form the basis of good relationships.

Education because it opens doors and worlds to us. The natural world; our environment. The rule of law.

How do you balance your work and family life?

I have to be intentional about it.

Sometimes I have to just schedule the time when life gets busy. Our children are grown now. When they were still home, family meals were important. We also tried to establish certain traditions. They could be as simple as everyone gathering on Sunday evening to watch a particular TV show with a special supper of popcorn and orange juice.

What do you like best about Fort Dodge?

There are a number of things I like about Fort Dodge. Perhaps the thing I like best is the growing entertainment options and the community support of the arts. It seems that every weekend, there is something going on. For example, there is free music weekly at Shiny Top Brewery and Soldier Creek Winery. I think the Blanden Art Museum is as good as any art museum that can be found in the Midwest. I also like the growing choice of good restaurants in the area. Fort Dodge is also close to Ames and Des Moines for even more choices. Finally, I like the parks and nature areas, including the growing trails and water trails. Isn’t there supposed to be just one “best?” Oh well, these are some of the things I like best about Fort Dodge.

What are you building for our future?

I hope that what I do helps bring some justice and fairness and that I can play a role in building a community that works together to make life better for everyone.

What are you working hardest on?

Day to day I am working hardest to serve my clients.
