Deputies were conducting a search warrant at 201 Second Ave. S. in Rutland at the time of the alleged incident.

Michael J. Saeger, 47, became combative at that time, according the Sheriff’s Department.

He ran to another room within the house as a deputy chased him.

Saeger grabbed a knife and tried to stab the deputy about four times, the Sheriff’s Department reported.

The deputy was wearing body armor at the time and did not suffer serious injuries.

Saeger was reportedly pepper sprayed and Tased.

He was transported to the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

He has since been transferred to the Humboldt County Jail.

Saeger is charged with assault on a peace officer while using dangerous weapon, a Class D felony; interference with official acts while displaying a dangerous weapon, a Class D felony; manufacturing a controlled substance, a Class D felony; 14 counts of drug tax stamp violation, a Class D felony; possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.
