Fort Dodge man charged with sexual abuse on child

Nathaniel Stanley

A Fort Dodge man is facing a felony sexual abuse charge after he allegedly had a child perform a sexually-motivated act upon him.

Nathaniel J. Stanley, 18, is charged with one count of second-degree sexual abuse, which is a Class B felony.

The child told their parents about what happened; they in turn contacted the Fort Dodge Police Department.

Stanley was arrested and had his initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Tuesday morning.

Magistrate William Habhab ordered Stanley held on $50,000 cash-only bond.

Habhab also issued a no-contact order between Stanley, the victim and the victim’s family.

Following Stanley’s initial appearance, a woman stood up and identified herself as the victim’s grandmother. She asked Habhab if there was any possible way for him to recommend counseling services for the victim’s parents. She said the victim has been receiving counseling, but the victim’s grandmother was specifically asking about the parents.

Habhab suggested that the family speak with the Webster County attorney’s office for any potential counseling services that could be offered.

After the victim’s grandmother sat down, a man who identified himself as Stanley’s father stood up to speak with Habhab. Stanley’s father said his son had been assaulted and asked Habhab about filing charges.

Habhab said he wasn’t the one who could charge anyone with a crime, and told Stanley’s father to speak with the Fort Dodge Police Department or the Webster County attorney’s office.

Members of both families left the courtroom after that point.

Stanley’s preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 1.
