FDCSD OKs change order for asbestos removal

The Fort Dodge Community School District board on Monday approved a change order for the removal of additional asbestos contained in the ceiling of the Fort Dodge Senior High library.

“When they tore out the old ceiling they found additional asbestos above the ceiling, which created a need for the change order,” Travis Filloon, director of buildings and grounds said.

REW Services, of Des Moines, removed the asbestos.

“The fact that they were able to get this done in 8 days was acceptable,” Filloon said.

The cost for the additional asbestos removal is $27,101, bringing the total project cost to $70,507.

Kolacia Construction Inc., of Fort Dodge, is now working to remodel the high school library.

The cost of those renovations is about $416,000.

The library will look similar to a portion of classrooms that were remodeled in the fall of 2017.

About 6,500 square feet will be remodeled.

New flooring, ceiling, and electrical upgrades are included in the plans.

The anticipated completion date is Oct. 19.
