Contract awarded for FDSH library project

The Fort Dodge Senior High library will have a new look when students return to class next fall.

The Fort Dodge Community School District board awarded a contract to renovate the library at its meeting Monday night.

Kolacia Construction Inc. of Fort Dodge, submitted a low bid of $416,000 and was awarded the contract.

Two other Fort Dodge firms submitted bids. Woodruff Construction LLC submitted a bid of $417,000. Jensen Builders, Ltd. submitted a bid of $423,000.

The library is connected to a portion of classrooms that were remodeled in the fall of 2017. That project was included in the $27 million general obligation bond that passed in February 2016. However, the library was not included in the bond issue.

The library will look similar to the classrooms that were remodeled right next to it, according to Travis Filloon, FDCSD director of buildings and grounds. The improvements will be funded through infrastructure funds.

Kolacia will begin the work on July 2 after asbestos removal takes place, according to Filloon.

About 6,500 square feet will be remodeled. New flooring, ceiling, and electrical upgrades are included in the plans.

The anticipated completion date is Oct. 19.
