RR repairs begin today on Hwy. 7

Repairs on a railroad crossing over Iowa Highway 7 begin today, temporarily closing that section of the road.

Highway 7 near the agricultural/industrial park known as Iowa’s Crossroads of Global Innovation will be closed for about one week while the Union Pacific Railroad makes repairs, said Webster County Engineer Randy Will. Originally scheduled for a month ago, the work was postponed because of another bridge project that took priority, said Andy Loonan, Iowa Department of Transportation District 1 field services coordinator.

UP did temporary repairs immediately after an accident at the crossing in June, said Assistant Webster County Engineer Jamie Johll.

It has been monitoring the crossing since then.

The county isn’t involved with the project, but works closely with the DOT on this since drivers will likely use county roads as a detour during that week.
