Final interns tell what brought them to FD and Webster County

Editor’s note: Interns involved in the Internship+ Program through the Greater Fort Dodge Growth Alliance share a little about themselves each Sunday throughout the summer. This is the last of that series of Q&As.

Olivia COOL

Hometown: Denver, Colorado

School: Iowa State University

Major: Animal science

Company: Elanco

Position: Research and Development intern

Why did you choose your field of study?

I have always been very passionate about animals and love the idea of helping them along with the people that love them.

Why did you choose the company you are interning for?

Since I am working towards my degree in Animal Science, I felt that Elanco was a great company to work for so that I could experience many different areas of the company and get a better feel for what I would like to do after college.

What do you like most about the company you are working for?

Everyone working for Elanco has been extremely kind and welcoming! I also am really enjoying being a part of very impactful projects while still learning.

What do you hope to get out of your internship?

I hope to use this internship to help me decide what career path and further education I would like to pursue.

What are your overall career goals?

I plan on either attending vet school or grad school, I am still undecided!

What are you looking forward to the most with the Internship+ Program?

I am looking forward to meeting other interns/students in the area.

What do you like about Fort Dodge?

I like the small town feel it has here and how kind everyone has been.

What hobbies do you enjoy on your free time?

I enjoy hiking, running, and volunteer work with animals.

ALYSSA NEHRING

Major: Arts Administration, Advertising, Graphic Design & Photography

Company: Spin Markket

Position: Graphic design Intern

Why did you choose your field of study?

I love my creative side. Therefore, I wanted a career that could support me and my creative side, in which I found through the combination of business and art departments.

Why did you choose the company you are interning for?

I was looking for a graphic design internship opportunity in the Fort Dodge area. I reached out to Spin Markket because I was drawn in by their website and work. They also market a lot of companies in Humboldt, and I like that I can work with companies in my hometown.

What do you like most about the company you are working for?

I really like how welcoming they were to me, even during the interview. It already felt like a family.

What do you hope to get out of your internship?

I hope to gain a lot of experience in branding/marketing companies of all different types. The work I do during this internship will help me extensively expand my portfolio. I also would love to see if I would like working for an agency rather than marketing for just one company.

What are your overall career goals?

My main goal is to find a job that makes me happy. I would love find a job that allows me to be creative.

What are you looking forward to the most with the Internship+ Program?

I am excited to meet other young professionals that will also be in Fort Dodge for the summer.

What do you like about Fort Dodge?

I grew up in the area, so for me it’s an extension of my hometown.

What hobbies do you enjoy on your free time?

I really enjoy swimming. I also like to spend my time reading or painting.
