13 Dodgers selected to All-State

Twenty-two band/vocal students from Fort Dodge Senior High recently auditioned for the 2018 Iowa High School Music Association’s All-State Music Festival. The students selected for the All-State Chorus represent about the top 1 percent of high school singers in the state.

Thirteen Dodger vocalists were selected. They are: Olyvia Selby, senior; Emily Asay, senior; Chloe Vinchattle, senior; Keziah Henkelman, senior; Claire Asay, freshman; Reagan Black, sophomore; Maddy Vinchattle, sophomore; Nathan Hayes, senior; Kane Freeman, junior; Joey Kelley, sophomore; Collin Ellsbury, senior; Jamie Lennon, senior; and Hoo Won, junior.

Austin Andrews, senior, was selected as second alternate on the tuba.

“The process of preparing music for the All-State audition includes so much learning and growth for each student, and that is where the true value lies,” said Matt Drees, FDSH vocal instructor. “Each of our students is a better and stronger musician from having challenged themselves with this audition process.”

The selected students will perform at the All-State Music Festival Nov. 15-17 in Ames. The final concert will take place on Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Hilton Coliseum in Ames. All seats for the concert are reserved, and tickets can be purchased online at Ticketmaster.com or at the Iowa State University Athletics Ticket Office.

“We could not be more proud of the way our students represented Fort Dodge today,” said Kim Wankum, FDSH vocal instructor. “Each of them gave wonderful, competent auditions, and represented our school and our community with excellence and class.”
