State Marching Band Festival set for Saturday at Dodger Stadium

An Iowa High School Music Association State Marching Band Festival will be held Saturday at Dodger Stadium.

Sixteen bands from throughout central Iowa will participate in the festival. Area bands competing include: Fort Dodge Senior High, Algona, Bishop Garrigan, Humboldt and Pocahontas Area.

Bands will begin performing at 9:30 a.m., with performances continuing throughout the day. Fort Dodge Senior High will wrap up the competition with its performance at 2:35 p.m.

Bands will be evaluated and judged on six categories: Marching and Maneuvering General Effect, Marching and Maneuvering Execution, Music Execution, Music General Effect, Percussion and Color Guard.

“State Marching Band is an opportunity for the students to showcase the time and effort they have put into their shows,” said Al Paulson, FDSH band director. “Every one of the bands coming will be well prepared, so we are looking forward to a fantastic day of music. We hope our local supporters will come out to the stadium to cheer our Dodger marching band on.”

The festival is open to the public and gates to Dodger Stadium will open at 9 a.m. Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for students in grades kindergarten through 12.
