Dobson acquires tools after fire

LAKE CITY — Dobson Pipe Organ Builders Ltd. announced on its Facebook page this week that it has made arrangements to to purchase the tools and equipment of the Nelson Barden & Associates workshop in Waltham, Massachusetts.

“A pioneer in the restoration of American electric-action instruments, Nelson’s workshop also served as an incubator for several generations of restorers doing similar high-quality work,” the post said. “We’re truly grateful to Nelson for helping us get back on our feet. We also extend our thanks to Sean O’Donnell, Peter Rudewicz, and Jonathan Ambrosino, who assisted with the sale, and to the Organ Clearing House, which will be moving the contents of the NBA workshop to Lake City in the second half of July.”

The Dobson factory was devastated by fire on June 15. The State Fire Marshal’s Office said it believes the fire was started by a malfunctioning fan that caused sawdust to ignite.
