J&J Custom Meats chosen for Small Business of the Month
WHITTEMORE – America’s Small Business Development Center Iowa (SBDC) has announced J&J Custom Meats, of Whittemore, as the winner of the organization’s statewide September Small Business of the Month Award.
In December 2019, Joe and JoAnn Harren, of Whittemore, started a meat locker with no prior meat locker experience, providing meat processing services for beef, pork, and venison, as well as retail sales of beef sticks, jerky, and other meat. The services they provide have been vital to their community during COVID-19, keeping the meat supply chain moving in their area.
They received help from Maureen Elbert and the team at Kossuth/Palo Alto County Economic Development Corporation, who connected the Harrens to many resources, one being Michael Wampler, regional director of the Northwest Iowa Small Business Development Center.
