Karl King Scholarships awarded to area students

Four area students were awarded college scholarships through the Karl L. King Memorial Scholarship Foundation this month. Three scholarships worth $500 each were awarded to students attending Iowa Central Community College with plans to participate in instrumental music. Brooklin Border, a flute player from Fort Dodge and recent graduate of St. Edmond High School, was awarded a $500 scholarship. Border, the daughter of Mark and Sheila Border, will be a freshman at Iowa Central Community College. Anna Marie Ingalls, a clarinet player from Bancroft and graduate of North Union High School, was also awarded a $500 scholarship. Ingalls, the daughter of Art and Jacki Ingalls, will be a sophomore at Iowa Central Community College. Andrew Schertz, an alto saxophone player from Fort Dodge and graduate of Fort Dodge Senior High, was also awarded a $500 scholarship. Schertz, the son of Jennifer Schertz, will be a sophomore at Iowa Central Community College. The Karl L. King Memorial Scholarship Foundation also annually awards a $1,000 scholarship to a student attending an Iowa college or university with plans to major in music. Nic Englin, pictured, a baritone player from Rockwell City and graduate of South Central Calhoun High School, was awarded the $1,000 scholarship. Englin, the son of Owen and Erin Englin, will be a freshman at the University of Northern Iowa this fall. The Karl L. King Memorial Foundation scholarships have been generously supported by several sources including Peggy and the late Tom Dowd and Dr. Greg and Joan Olson in memory of their parents.
