HUMBOLDT — The first Christmas Market will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 27 at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds.

Marla Ramaekers and her daughter Olivia Renken decided to host the event to celebrate small businesses.

“Our main goal, with it being small business Saturday, is to bring attention to small business owners who might go unnoticed because they are home based, but to also bring people to Humboldt,” said Renken.

She said they also hope to highlight some of the small businesses Humboldt has to offer and encourage people to visit their downtown more.

The market will feature mini photo sessions, food, a gingerbread house competition, a book tree to collect book donations, and 33 local vendors.

Entrance to the event is free and open to the public.

“We have 33 local vendors from direct sales such as Farmasi, Color Street, Norwex, and Pampered Chef to home crafters like myself from The Sewologist, Marla from Liberty Bake Shoppe, Pallet Junkie, and Farm Soap Gal,” said Renken.

Tre Photo from Humboldt will be bringing Santa, Mrs. Claus, and a few elves for mini photo sessions. UDMO will have a book tree for people to donate gently used books for all ages that will be hung on the tree and given to families in need at Christmas.

The gingerbread bake off will be open to anyone above the age of six years old and there will be three age groups. Contestants can email Renken at renken0712@gmail.com to enter as spaces are limited. There will be cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age group. Humboldt Mayor Dan Scholl, and two members of the Humboldt Area Arts Council will judge the entries on overall appearance, originality and difficulty.

Renken said the first 25 guests will get an extra bonus.

“The first 25 guests in the door at 10 a.m. will receive a swag bag or in this case a swag stocking that will be full of goodies from our vendors. This could be coupons, samples, gift certificates, punch cards, business cards, just a sneak peek at what our vendors have,” she said.

Renken said they hope for this event to become an annual tradition.
