St. Edmond to present Fine Arts Showcase

St. Edmond students will soon take the stage as the St. Edmond Music Department presents their second Fine Arts Showcase Oct. 2 and 3.

St. Edmond students have prepared and rehearsed songs and dances from well-known musicals such as Guys and Dolls, Six, and Dear Evan Hansen.

Director of Vocal Music at St. Edmond’s Ben Wegner said they are excited to hold this event again. “The Fine Arts Showcase was one of the unexpected blessings that came from the COVID pandemic,” said Wegner. “When it was decided that we couldn’t perform a musical, we went to students and asked them to pick music from musicals they liked.”

Wegner said he prepared some soloists and groups, Janessa Hendrix choreographed some numbers from various shows, and Alyssa Sparks coached students and helped develop their stage presence.

Wegner said they also wanted to feature students who participate in Speech and students who had prepared music for solo and small ensemble contests.

“When all was said and done, we had students represented from each grade and all were able to take center stage and receive recognition for their talents and hard work,” said Wegner.

Wegner said he loves seeing the support the students show to one another. “When students practiced in front of each other, each performance ended with wild applause and I really believe more students have found greater confidence because of that,” said Wegner.

Students will be accompanied by Wegner and also Band Director Ryan Swedean.

Performances will be October 2 at 7 p.m. and October 3 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students.

Wegner said, “The students have been talking about the upcoming performances since last March and they are all very excited to take the stage once more.”
