WEBSTER CITY — Gus Dermand, of Webster City, will celebrate his 95th birthday on July 16.

His family includes wife Nancy Dermand; Steve Dermand, of Indianola; Beth Alt, of Seward, Nebraska; and Emily Dermand, of Ankeny. He has 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchilden.

He was born on July 16, 1924 in Webster City. He attended Webster City schools and graduated in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He owned and operated Dermand’s Cafe. He married Nancy Parrish in 1952. After selling the restaurant, he worked as a janitor and for the Parks and Recreation Department mowing. He served as mayor and has been very active in the community.
