VOTE YES chairman thanks the community

To the editor:

Feb. 6 was a cold, snowy, wintry day here in north central Iowa. Voters in Buena Vista, Calhoun, Greene, Hamilton, Humboldt, Pocahontas, Sac, Webster and Wright counties were called on to approve a proposal by Iowa Central Community College to sell $25.5 million in bonds to help finance a much needed improvement program. To assist the college in their plans A VOTE YES committee was formed and the resulting 67.5 percent favorable votes speaks well of their efforts. As the chairman of that committee I thank the members individually and collectively for their efforts. There is one other group that should be recognized and that is those individuals, companies, and businesses that contributed funds so that the YES committee could carry out their self-imposed mission. As chairman I thank each of you for your generous contribution.

I also want to thank all citizens of Area V who voted on that day. In this respect it cannot go unnoticed that 32.5 percent of the voters who voted “no” on that day braved the very same adverse weather conditions of those who voted “yes.” I have talked with several of the no voters and am convinced that each seek the very same goal as those voting yes but with a slightly different approach. Although the matter is now settled, in keeping with teachings of our democratic system of government, I believe I can speak for all voters that we stand behind the efforts of Iowa Central Community College to provide quality education to all students.

Retired
