Titans, Jags claim invite titles
GOWRIE — The South Central Calhoun boys and Southeast Valley girls secured team championships in the Southeast Valley Co-Ed Relays on Monday.
The Titan boys scored 181 points to finish ahead of the host Jaguars (166). The SV girls accumulated 125 points, with Newell-Fonda (114) placing second.
Ben Englin won the 400-meter dash for SCC in 54.45, and teammate Spencer Moon took the 1600-meter run (4:29.39). Josh Van Hulzen was victorious in the 110-meter hurdles (15.72), and Mason Merkley was first in the 400-meter hurdles (59.56).
South Central Calhoun dominated the relays as well, grabbing gold in the 4×100 (44.91), 4×400 (3:40.99), sprint medley (1:40.00), distance medley (3:36.08) and shuttle hurdle (1:03.61).
Nyles Johnson of Southeast Valley was a double winner, earning championships in the 200-meter dash (23.89) and the high jump (6-0). Teammate Coledon Bethel was the 3200-meter run titleist (11:02.88).
Jaguar Kyler Fisher was first in the 100-meter dash (11.84), and SV’s Mason Ackerson won the discus (126-5). The 4×200 (1:34.70) garnered a title as well, along with Rhett Grandfield in the 800 (2:14.53).
On the girls side, Kiersten Fisher was a double gold medalist in the 100 (15.84) and 200 (27.55) for the Jaguars.
Southeast Valley also took the 4×200 (1:57.32).
Jade Ridgely of South Central Calhoun won the 400 in 1:01.74.
The Mustang girls received first-place performances from Olivia Larsen in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.44) and Bailey Sievers in the 800-meter run (2:34.00).
The Newell-Fonda distance medley quartet ran a 4:44.14 to prevail, as did the sprint medley relay (1:58.07).
