All-TLC girls basketball

The Newell-Fonda girls had another banner season on the hardwood.

Along with claiming the Twin Lakes Conference regular season title with a perfect 11-0 record, the Mustangs placed two players on the first team in sisters Olivia and Ella Larsen. Newell-Fonda won its second state title in Class 1A, finishing as the only unbeaten team.

South Central Calhoun’s Heidi Hammen and Maddie Jones made the same honor squad after helping the Titans finish second at 10-1.

Olivia Larsen led the team with 366 points, 143 steals and 119 assists. She was second behind Ella in rebounds with 151.

Ella Larsen, a sophomore, scored 310 points with 159 rebounds, 93 steals, 75 assists and 28 blocked shots.

Jones, a senior, averaged 20 points per game and finished with 111 rebounds, 100 assists and 95 steals. She shot almost 58 percent from the floor and was an 83-percent free throw shooter.

Hammen, also a senior, posted 11 points per game with a team-high 25 made 3-pointers. She had 107 rebounds, 37 assists, 31 steals and nine blocks.

Emmetsburg’s Molly Schany and East Sac County’s Taylor Houska were also placed on the first-team.

Schany averaged 14.6 points with 209 rebounds, 26 assists, 23 blocks and 21 steals. Houska posted 16 points with 101 assists, 45 steals and 63 made triples.

Newell-Fonda’s Maggie Walker; South Central Calhoun’s Emma McKinney; Emmetsburg’s Abbie Schany; East Sac County’s Maty Quirk; Manson Northwest Webster’s Bailey Kenyon; and Kaylee Shivers of Pocahontas Area were second team selections.

Dick Jungers was named the all-TLC coach of the year.
