Timeout with: Macey Mason

-Messenger photo by Britt Kudla St. Edmond's Macey Mason is in her senior season for the Gaels. Mason has been basketball, volleyball and softball starter for the Gaels.

When the final swing is taken later this summer in Macey Mason’s athletic career at St. Edmond, she’ll be able to look back fondly on all the memories created.

For now, though, Mason is focused on making sure her senior season is the best one yet.

A three-sport standout for St. Edmond, Mason is a starter on the basketball team, averaging just under six points per game with 39 rebounds, nine assists and nine steals.

She has scored 188 career points with 163 rebounds, 59 assists and 58 steals since stepping on the court as a ninth-grader.

Earlier this year, she earned all-North Central Conference honors in volleyball after recording 77 digs and placing in the Top-10 in serving. For her Gael career, Mason registered 722 digs, placing her second in school history.

“Being a Gael athlete has been such a learning experience,” Mason said. “You get to know so many great players and coaches that you create bonds with, and they all help you strive to be your best on and off the court of field.

“It has been a truly amazing experience and I will cherish all the memories I have made along the way.”

This summer, Mason will step back on the diamond to try and get St. Edmond to the state tournament after reaching regional finals each of the past two seasons.

Last year, Mason hit .358 with 22 runs, five doubles, 19 RBI and 18 stolen bases. She also had 11 assists from her outfield spot.

“Over the past few seasons as a Gael, I feel like I have grown in my leadership and knowledge of all three sports I participate in,” Mason said. “I would like the younger classmen to remember me by my leadership and ability to learn from mistakes all while having fun.”

In three-plus seasons, Mason has 42 runs scored, 82 hits, 17 doubles, 36 RBI, 30 steals and 39 outfield assists.

Mason, who plans to attend Iowa Central and major in nursing, is also involved in student council, Play Like A Champion and National Honor Society.
