Gael girls fall to Clear Lake
CLEAR LAKE — It was a difficult night for the St. Edmond girls, as they lost to Clear Lake and found out leading scorer Jocy Timmerman is out for the season.
The second-ranked (Class 3A) Lions scored a 61-25 victory here Friday night, using a 24-4 second quarter to take control.
Timmerman, who entered the night leading the Gaels (0-6 overall, 0-4 in North Central Conference) in scoring, suffered a season-ending knee injury this past Tuesday vs. Algona.
“It’s a tough break and you hate to see it happen to any kid,” SEHS head coach Steve Neuberger said. “Jocy is a really hard worker, but now, we need other kids to step up in her place.”
Devyn Scott, a senior, scored a team-high seven points for St. Edmond, with Macey Mason and Jacque Oberg adding six each.
“We did a nice job in the first, but turnovers cost us in the second,” Neuberger said. “They took advantage of those mistakes, and against a team like Clear Lake, you just cannot do that.”
The Lions (6-0, 4-0) have now won 23 consecutive NCC games.
St. Edmond returns to action Saturday night, hosting South Hamilton inside the Gael gym at 5 p.m. The Hawks lost to Gilbert last night, 70-35.
