Tritons stun No. 1 Johnson

BOONE — The 10th-ranked Iowa Central volleyball team stunned top-ranked Johnson Community College here on Friday.

The Tritons beat Johnson 25-21, 20-25, 25-27, 25-22 and 15-13.

“It was a great opportunity for our girls to play two of the top three ranked teams in the country,” said Iowa Central head coach Sara Horn. “Our players were confident going into our match with Johnson, and I thought it showed in the way they played.

“Our kids have done such a great job of adjusting and raising the bar as the season goes on. I’m really proud of the way they’ve stepped out of their comfort zone and worked on the things we’ve asked them to do. This group is a lot of fun to work with every day, and I’m really excited to see how they finish out the month of October.”

Amaya Finley led the Tritons with 30 kills, while Libby Zorn had 22. Kryssie Okinaka had 33 digs and Taylor Bienemann had 20.

Iowa Central then lost to Coffeyville 25-21, 25-17, 25-18.

In that match, Zorn tallied eight kills, while Finley, Asarar Gony and Kayla Faldet recorded five each.

Finley had 14 digs, and Lohrmann and Okinaka added 12 each.
