Faiferlick’s Whitehead on Bellator 204 card

Fighter will face former Div. II wrestling champ Cotton in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Willie Whitehead, who trains under Fort Dodge’s Justin Faiferlick at Faiferlick Martial Arts, will compete on Friday night’s Bellator 204 card.

The event takes place inside the Sanford Pentagon, and marks the first appearance for the promotion in South Dakota. The main card airs live on Paramount Network, with prelims streaming online.

Whitehead, nicknamed “Rozay,” is 2-2 as a professional following an 8-0 run as an amateur. He held the Brutaal Genesis title during his amateur career.

Standing across the cage from Whitehead will be Romero Cotton, a three-time NCAA Div. II national wrestling champion and four-time All-American at Nebraska-Kearney. He also attended Nebraska, competing for both the Husker wrestling and football team his freshman year.

The card features Darrion Caldwell, the reigning Bellator bantamweight champion, taking on Noad Lahat in a featherweight contest, along with Logan Storley meeting A.J. Matthews and James Gallagher facing off against Ricky Bandejas.

Storley is a former South Dakota State wrestling champion and competed for the Minnesota wrestling team, following in the footsteps of South Dakota native Brock Lesnar. Gallagher trains with Conor McGregor at SBG Ireland.

“I’m excited to bring Bellator to Sioux Falls this summer with a great venue partner in the Sanford Pentagon,” said Bellator president Scott Coker in a press release. “I always look forward to visiting a new market and having a crowd experience a live Bellator event for the first time. This is a great card with a lot of intriguing matchups that I know fans will enjoy. With this being such a strong wrestling community, I’m also excited to feature several former collegiate wrestlers on Aug. 17, including Darrion Caldwell and South Dakota’s Logan Storley.”

The Whitehead-Cotton bout is scheduled for the online prelims portion of the night.
