Halligan one hits Ames

AMES — Ames couldn’t handle Fort Dodge’s Shane Halligan on Tuesday night.

Halligan tossed a one-hitter in a 5-0 victory and was 3-for-3 at the plate.

Halligan walked two and struck out four batters for the Dodgers (16-20 overall).

“Shane competed his tail off,” FDSH head coach Blake Utley said. “He was pumping strikes into the zone and our defense played great behind him. This was a big start out of Shane because we’re saving other arms for the postseason like everybody else right now.

“Nate (Scherff), Drew (Callon) and Brycen (Bell) all had great plays in the outfield and our infield had a good night.”

Drake Miller was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Anthony Wagner drove in the other run.

“We got some timely hits,” Utley said. “It was a big win heading into the postseason.”

The Dodgers are back in action on Friday when they face Sioux City North in a Class 4A substate contest in Lawton.
