Dodgers set to open postseason

The eighth-ranked Fort Dodge softball team will open postseason play tonight as they host Sioux City North.

Action begins at 7 p.m. at Rogers Park in a Class 5A, Region 1 semifinal.

The Dodgers (33-7 overall) will face the Stars (14-14), who are coming off a 10-0 victory over Sioux City West in a quarterfinal contest.

On the other side of the bracket will be sixth-ranked Urbandale (28-10) against Sioux City East (13-21) in Urbandale. The two winners will meet Tuesday at the highest remaining teams home field.

Fort Dodge enters the contest winners of 17 of their last 20 games.

The Dodgers lead 5A in runs scored (321; 27 more than anyone else), hits (429; 19 more than anyone else and RBI (302; 34 more than anyone else.

Senior Bre Tjebben (49) leads six Dodgers who have over 30 RBI. Tjebben’s total is tied for fifth best in 5A.

Freshman Tristin Doster has driven in 40. Sophomore Loghen Schnetzer (39), Junior Daphne Alstott (35), Eighth-grader Jalen Adams (30) and junior Aubrey Davis (30) also pace the Dodgers.

Alstott (66), Tjebben (64), Doster (54) and Adams (51) lead the Dodgers in hits. Alstott and Tjebben have the fourth and fifth most in 5A.

The Dodgers have hit 21 home runs as a team, led by Doster and Schnetzer with seven and six respectively.

Alstott (.475) and Tjebben (.460) lead the Dodgers in average, while eighth-grader Tory Bennett (.388), Adams (.378) and Doster (.375) are right behind.

The Dodger pitching rotation is paced by Adams (17-3), sophomore Katelyn Werning (9-2) and Tjebben (8-1).

Adams boasts an ERA of 2.71 with 99 strikeouts. Werning has an ERA of 2.17 with 51 strikeouts. Tjebben has fanned 10 batters with a 2.20 ERA. Werning has four saves.

Sioux City North is led at the plate by junior Hailey Hoogers, who is hitting .443 with three home runs and leads the team with 23 RBI. Junior Kylee Eickholt has driven in 19.

Hoogers is also the pitcher for the Stars with a mark of 13-11. She has a 2.95 ERA with 114 strikeouts.
