St. Edmond goes 2-1 at CYO softball
The St. Edmond softball team went 2-1 at the CYO Tournament here on Saturday, defeating Le Mars Gehlen and Storm Lake St. Mary’s but falling against Sioux City Heelan.
The Gaels (5-3 overall) routed Gehlen, 9-3, and St. Mary’s, 15-5. Heelan posted a 7-0 shutout.
”The whole team played well,” SEHS head coach Nick Clark said. ”We really battled and had some good at-bats. We stacked some big innings together.
”To play back-to-back-to-back like this without a break, especially after being on the road Friday (at Iowa Falls-Alden), was a test of our endurance. It was great to see us respond well.”
Audrey Kolacia went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a pair of doubles against Gehlen. Erin Flattery was 3-for-4 with a triple, while Jacque Oberg added three hits.
Kolacia and Flattery both had inside-the-park home runs in the win over SLSM, while Rylee Kinney added two hits, two RBI and reached base all four times. Kolacia recorded three hits. Jocy Timmerman was 2-for-2.
”Audrey and Erin had big days, and Chloe Lewison gave us some terrific at-bats,” Clark said. ”We took a positive step forward (on Saturday).”
Kolacia was named to the all-CYO squad.
The Gaels return to action on Monday at home against Algona. First varsity pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
