Big weekend for FDSH grad Brayton
ATLANTA — Justin Brayton picked up one of the main event checkered flags here this past weekend on the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship tour, finishing fourth overall inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Brayton, a native of Fort Dodge and FDSH graduate, rode his Honda CRF450 to a first and two sixth place finishes during the three-stage event. Jason Anderson placed first overall followed by Marvin Musquin and Eli Tomac.
“It was so cool to do it here in Atlanta,” Brayton said in a post-fight interview with VitalMX.com. “My family was here watching and this is the only race they are coming to so it was very special.”
Brayton picked up the first stage, completing the 13-lap event in 52.419. Anderson was second and Blake Baggett third. He qualified in fifth to start the main events.
“I made a lot of good passes and snuck by for the win,” Brayton said. “It’s pretty cool. I know it wasn’t an overall win, but I’ll take it.
“Overall, it was a good night. A lot of people talk about my age, but I still have a lot of fight left in me and feel like I can do it.”
Currently, Brayton sits fourth overall in the season-long point standings with 144. Anderson is first with 207 followed by Musquin (165) and Baggett (150).
The series heads to Daytona and Daytona International Speedway this weekend with a stop in St. Louis scheduled for March 17.
