Dodgers lose to Dowling

WEST DES MOINES — The Fort Dodge girls were unable to pull the upset here Saturday night, falling to West Des Moines Dowling in a Class 5A regional semifinal, 80-53.

After rallying past Sioux City East in the regional opener, the Dodgers (5-18 overall) couldn’t solve the Maroons, who raced out to a 27-7 lead after the first quarter.

Shareece Smith scored 24 points, adding six rebounds, four assists and two steals to lead Fort Dodge. Taelor Lessmeier scored seven and Liza Van Zyl added four points and five rebounds.

The Dodgers battled back, outscoring Dowling 20-13 in the second quarter.

Raeya Love had six points, four steals, three rebounds and two steals, with Beth Murman adding four boards and three points.

Love, Smith, Murman, Lessmeier, Van Zyl and Makla Naylor all played their final games for the Dodgers.
