Big inning lifts Tritons

ENID, Okla. — A nine-run seventh inning propelled the Iowa Central baseball team to a 10-4 victory over MCC-Longview on Sunday.

The Tritons (3-1 overall), who have now won three straight games, had six hits in the contest, but came up with some big at bats in the seventh, after trailing 4-1 heading into the frame.

“We put together a huge seventh inning, scoring nine runs,” said Iowa Central head coach Justin Meyer. “We strung together some big hits and wanted to protect the lead.

“I wouldn’t say we played that well, but we found a way to win.”

Nolan Monthei and Timothy Neff both had triples for Iowa Central. Monthei drove in three runs. Alberto Ortiz had two RBI. Noah Grimes and Ortiz had doubles.

Houston Hawkins picked up the win after 1• innings of work. Jacob Goraczkowski started the contest and went four innings.

Jason Ferreras and Jared Thompson also saw some action on the mound.

“Goraczkowski got the start and threw well,” Meyer said. “We got some other guys in there because we wanted them to get their feet wet.”

The Tritons are back in action on Saturday when they travel to O’Fallon, Missouri. They face Elgin Community College in a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m.
