Tanner hits game winner
WEBSTER CITY — St. Edmond suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Webster City boys on the road Tuesday night.
The Gaels (10-8 overall, 8-4 North Central Conference) held a 31-23 lead after three quarters, but the Lynx (12-5, 8-3) came storming back to pull out a 39-38 victory on a last-second basket by Jordan Tanner.
Cameron Moen hit a three-pointer with 42 seconds left to cut the Gael lead to 38-37.
St. Edmond missed the front end of a one-and-one and Webster City rebounded the ball, but missed two shots and were forced to foul.
The Gaels again missed a front end of a one-and-one, giving the Lynx the ball back.
Tanner drove the lane and pulled up from about 14 feet from the basket to sink the game-winner with two seconds left. St. Edmond’s last ditch effort missed, giving Webster City the comeback win.
Junior Andrew Gibb paced the Gaels with 16 points. Jackson Kochendorfer added seven.
Noah McKinney and Moen led the Lynx with eight points each. Henry Hoversten chipped in with seven. Tanner and Bultena added six each.
The Gaels are back in action on Thursday when they host Pocahontas Area as part of a girl/boy doubleheader. Boys action is set to tip at 7:45 p.m.
