Gaels ride late surge

IOWA FALLS –The St. Edmond boys put together a strong fourth quarter and held off Iowa Falls-Alden for a 47-44 victory.

The Gaels (10-6 overall, 8-3 North Central Conference) scored 26 points in the first three quarters, but came up with 21 in the final eight minutes.

“We weren’t getting a lot of good shots early,” said St. Edmond head coach Adolph Kochendorfer. “We were doing a good job defensively.”

St. Edmond was able to stay ahead of the Cadets from the free throw line, finishing 13-for-18.

Jed Tracy came up big in the fourth quarter, hitting 5 of 6 free throws and Sean Flaherty had six points in the frame.

“Jed came up big in the fourth quarter at the free throw line,” Kochendorfer said. “It was nip and tuck the entire game and we hit a lot of free throws to help out.”

Andrew Gibb led the Gaels in scoring with 14 points. Jackson Kochendorfer had nine points and Flaherty added eight. Will Woodruff and Tracy finished with seven each.

The Gaels are back in action today when they travel to Carroll Kuemper in a girl/boy doubleheader. The boys game will tip at 7:45 p.m.
