DES MOINES — The Fort Dodge girls got back in the win column here on Tuesday, routing Des Moines North 53-23.

“We played very well on defense,” said FDSH head coach Julius Michalik. “We held them to eight points in the first half and 23 total, so we had a strong effort on that end of the court.”

The Dodgers (4-11 overall) jumped out to a 17-8 halftime advantage.

Senior Beth Murman paced the Dodgers with 13 points. Murman hit five field goals, and was 3-for-5 from the free throw line.

Senior Shareece Smith added 11 for Fort Dodge.

“Beth and Shareece both had strong games,” Michalik said. “Our guards did a great job pressuring the ball, and Taelor (Lessmeier) was solid defensively.

“We rebounded well on both ends of the court.”

Lessmeier checked in with nine points, while Raeya Love had seven.

The Dodgers will now begin a stretch with two straight contests against ranked opponents. Fort Dodge meets No. 5 West Des Moines Dowling on Friday, then travels to No. 14 Ankeny on Tuesday.

Tip is set for 6:15 p.m. in both games.
