FD volleyball team gets started at West

WATERLOO — The Fort Dodge volleyball team opens Class 5A regional play here Wednesday night against Waterloo West.

Action begins at 7 p.m. in this Region 6 quarterfinal.

The winner advances to face top-ranked Cedar Falls on Tuesday in a semifinal. Marshalltown and Ames meet in the other semi, with those winners facing off Oct. 30 for a spot in the state tournament.

Fort Dodge (8-23 overall) won three of four this past weekend at the Woodward-Granger Tournament.

Junior Kacee Gollob leads the Dodgers with 208 kills, followed by senior Beth Murman’s 174. Juniors Ebonee Altman and Brooke Erickson have 79 and 58, respectively.

Gollob also leads the team in aces with 35 and blocks with 73. Senior Josie Shirbroun has 29 aces, 310 assists and 190 digs.

The Wahawks (10-22) have dropped their last 10 matches and are just 2-15 over their last 17. Junior Kaylissa Arndorfer has 193 kills and senior Shelby Schoonover 101 on the year.

Arndorfer also has a team high 122 blocks, with 91 of those being solos.
