Tritons host No. 14 Dodge City

The Iowa Central football team had a week to work on their mistakes, and the Tritons now head back to the field to try and end a 16-game program losing streak.

Head coach Kevin Twait’s squad will entertain No. 14 Dodge City (0-1) inside Dodger Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.

The Tritons dropped a 13-6 decision to College of DuPage in their opener last Saturday at home.

Twait is hoping a breakout effort is coming this week.

“We’ve had a couple of good practices and we’ve fixed some things,” Twait said. “One thing is for sure: you’re not going to win a college football game by scoring six points. We have to have at least four touchdowns.

“Defensively, we had a good gameplan, but didn’t get off the field enough. Dodge City is a lot better team than DuPage, so they’re bringing a different cup of tea to the tea party.”

The Tritons had 75 yards rushing, and Carter Downer had the lone score on a 14-yard scamper.

“We have to be more aggressive on defense and special teams,” Twait said. “We only forced one turnover; I’d like to be plus three in that department.

“We also have to dominate the special-teams fight and focus more on explosive plays.”

BJ Phillips will get the start at quarterback for the Tritons, but Zach Parker will also see time behind center.
