YORK, Pa. — Fort Dodge freshman-to-be Drake Ayala went a perfect 8-0 and earned a spot on the Cadet Freestyle National Duals All-Tournament team this past weekend.

Ayala went undefeated at 88 pounds for Iowa Gold to earn the honor, which was achieved by only four other Iowans: Cullan Schriever (100 pounds), Caleb Rathjen (106), Cael Happel (120) and Cade DeVos (138). The Cadet National Duals featured 15 and 16 year old wrestlers from state association teams.

There were 63 competitors from 21 states with an unbeaten individual record.

In freestyle action, Ayala scored two pins, three technical falls, and advanced twice via forfeit. He was also 6-1 in Greco competition.

Ayala recently placed fifth at the UWW Cadet and University Nationals in Akron, Ohio. The multiple-time Iowa AAU state champion was ranked 24th nationally on the FloWrestling Junior High Big Board this past January. He is a defending USA state champion in folkstyle, freestyle and Greco.

Ayala also placed second at Tulsa Nationals in January, was third at the Super 32, and third at postseason nationals.

Fort Dodge sophomore-to-be Levi Egli went 4-4 in freestyle competition at 160 pounds in the event, while junior-to-be Drevon Ross was 3-5 at 138. Ayala, Egli and Ross were on the Greco team that placed fourth overall.
