Three Triton women qualify for nationals

ANKENY — The Iowa Central women’s golf team had three players qualify for nationals after a strong regional tournament this past the weekend.

The Tritons finished third with a 362. Iowa Western won the tournament with a 321 and DMACC was runner up at 342.

Fort Dodge graduate Kylie Kuiper qualifying for nationals with a 12th place showing, shooting a 95. It’s her second trip to nationals.

Hannah Hoffa finished fifth with an 82. and Brittani Jenson was seventh with an 84.

“It really means a lot to these girls to qualify for nationals,” ICCC head coach David Barwin said. “We have talked about thsi since day one and they have been really playing well here has of late.

“Each tournament this spring, they focused on competing and it paid off.”

Iowa Western’s Sena Ersoy won the regional title after shooting a 77. DMACC’s Jamie Bellingham was second with a 78.

This was the fifth top three finish in the last five years for Iowa Central. The Tritons have had at least one qualifier for nationals in eight consecutive years.

The tournament was cut to the first round of 18 holes because of the adverse weather conditions.

The national tournament will be hled in Duluth, Georgia May 15 through May 18.
