Tritons earn sweep over NIACC

MASON CITY — The Iowa Central softball team earned a sweep over NIACC on Thursday.

The 17th-ranked Tritons (33-16 overall, 12-8 in ICCAC) picked up 17-6 and 5-2 victories.

In the opener, Jessa May earned the win, going five innings and giving up six hits. She struck out eight and walked two.

Ashley Hahnbaum and May had three hits and four RBI each. Hahnbaum scored twice and May crossed the plate once.

Hahnbaum had three doubles and May had one.

“We had a big inning, scoring 10 runs in the third,” ICCC head coach Rick Sandquist said. “Ashley got on all five times and had three doubles.”

Fort Dodge Senior High graduate Molly Matthes hit a home run and scored twice.

Alexis Egan drove in two wins.

Ex-Dodger Cassie Tjebben went the distance to earn the win in the nightcap. She fanned four and walked one, while giving up two earned runs.

“Cassie threw well in a complete game,” Sandquist said. “She spread her hits out and kept them off balanced.”

Maddie Wagner drove in two runs and May also had an RBI.

Hahnbaum scored twice for the Tritons.

Iowa Central is back in action on Monday when they travel to Ellsworth. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
